When my dog smiles, I smile was part of a culmination of research into machine perception and the anthropomorphism of digital technologies. Images of natural ecologies exist within image databases, training recognition software in an attempt to mimic human perception. It is an acknowledgement of human-centric perception as something which is both limiting yet unavoidable in our understanding of technology. The video installation acts as a human interpretation of other ways of sensing and processing in both animals and machines alike.
