(booklet of 4 zines 14.8cm x 21cm)

"Caesura is a collaborative work by Isabel English, Rachel Enright-Murphy, Charlotte Foley, Leda Scully and Neil Quigley, using the artist-initiated exhibition ‘caesura’ (2022) at Unit 44, as their starting point.

In his eccentric collage of aphorisms, Walter Benjamin in ‘One Way Street’ talks about how, to the person deeply embedded in their research or creative work, it is the fragment which holds most power and interest for them over their completed projects. The fragment or partial idea floating just out of reach, like a sentence paused in the middle while the speaker collects their thoughts, is more interesting to them than the finished piece, and it’s this cycle of chasing fragments or parts that constitutes an interesting working life, where the best discoveries can be made.

The artists come together with this idea of the fragment in mind, which opens out of a way of thinking and working together, in which aspects of their work overlap and other parts stand alone.
